Cathedrals
Whenever my wife and I visit the redwood groves of Northern California, or the rock canyons of Southern Utah, she comments on the experience being similar to visiting a cathedral. These two recent panoramas remind me of those experiences. The first image is of the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Greek Orthodox Church of Greater Salt Lake.
The following “cathedral” is a small grove of pines above the Sundance Resort in Northern Utah.
Cathedrals have a way of lifting our vision, literally and figuratively.
As always, click to open, then click and drag to move around.

These vistaspheres (I made it up) are amazing. The only example that I have seen previously are contained in promotional material for Halberg-Rassey Yachts. Being a sailor I found the yacht interiors of great interest, but your works are beautiful and inspiring examples of the art. This technology allows us to “be” in any part of this wonderful world that we choose. I hope to find more examples in many locations. No doubt, future developments will allow us to look around as we ride a fast yacht leading the charge to Hobart in the wild waters of the classic Sydney Hobart Yacht race: or any other event that we can imagine. Bring it on!

Excellent photography!! I am curious as to what equipment and software you use to create the panaromas. I have created a few but they are all level. I can’t drag up or down only side to side. How do you get the full globe effect?
Thanks for sharing.

Congratulations! A friend that lives in New Mexico sent me the links for the panoramas. We have been [about years ago] at the Zyon Park by motorcycle and I really loved it. Now back to Brasil I always remember such beautiful places we visited. And your pictures brought good memories. Thank you very much.

Hi Dean,
Thanks for your comments, Nodal Ninja makes good panorama heads, and this site has information regarding various software as well. Should you decide to buy a pano head, I hope you will consider purchasing through this link, as this helps support our site.
All The Best,
Martin

The Pano heads look great… What camera and lens combos are good to use to create? I have a D-300 – any lens suggestions or perhaps a smaller system?
I love what you are doing. I have done 360′s, but not the great 720′s you show here.
best,
rk

The D300 is an excellent camera for panos. The Nikon 10.5mm fisheye is a very good choice. If you need to produce panoramas using fewer shots, you could use an 8mm fisheye, but the quality would not be quite as good.

Martin, you are a genius.
We just met a couple of hours ago in the JSMB where you were filming the lobby.
Wonderful work.
Thank you for sharing it with the world.

Thank you so much for putting these out on the web for anyone to enjoy. I don’t remember when I have had so much fun on a web site – and you’ve allowed me to see beautiful places I may never get to visit in person – what a gift! I can’t wait to see what you shoot next – I have shared your site with friends and family.

Thanks Sue for your comments. I as well can think of many places I may never get to visit. There will be some new panoramas in the coming weeks.

Thanks so much for having a tour of the Holy Trinity Cathedral. I will be married there next month, and I wanted to show my Aunt a picture of it. This was one thousand times better!

Hi Alisanne,
You’re getting married in a very noble, handsome edifice. Have a good marriage!
