San Rafael Swell-Copper Globe Mine

The Copper Globe Mine, located in the San Rafael Swell area of Utah, was in operation from about 1900 to 1905 AD, and was one of the largest mining operations in "The Swell" but never produced much ore. Efforts to smelt the ore on site were thwarted by the use of bricks for the kilns which melted before the ore.

This view is of a miners' cabin at the site, the back wall of which is carved into a small hill. Several mine shafts still exist here, cut into the hard rock of The Swell, as well as other remnants of this short lived mining opperation
