Capitol Reef National Park-Moenkopi Sandstone

The western edge of Capitol Reef National Park is marked by the deep red sandstone of the Moenkopi Formation, which is exposed in many areas of the deseret southwest in the US. This unnamed ravine dotted with Utah Junipers is just one sampling of the varied geological features of Capitol Reef.

Rainwater that follows this wash makes its way to Sulphur Creek. Further east, features such as Gypsum Sink can be found in more remote locations of the park. - Martin van Hemert
