It sounds like a mystery novel or something doesn’t it?  Orion is one of the most prominent constellations in the night sky, and is visible in the opening view of this panorama of Goblin Valley:

Goblin Valley, near the metropolis of Hanksville (population 219) is just simply a cool (or insert your own adjective) place.  Kids absolutely love it, as the pint-size rock formations are perfect to climb on, and it’s enchanting for the rest of us as well.  The very  bright “star” in the west is Venus.

Dead Horse Point, near Moab, Utah is a much photographed vista.  Perry Van Schelt, responsible for much of the behind the scenes workings here at Utah3D.Net, shot this panorama of the location:

Visitors to this site often raise the question of how Dead Horse Point got its name.  There are a few variations of a story commonly related that tell of a herd of corralled horses which died of thirst here in the 1800s. However, a longtime resident of Moab explains that the name comes from a rock formation, visible from the point, that looks like a dead horse.  In this panorama it is visible in the small section of white rock just to the left of the Colorado River. Orderville Canyon in Zion National Park is a side canyon which connects to the Zion Narrows, featured in our previous panorama.  These narrowest sections along The Narrows hike are what really make it worth going to a little bit of effort to get here:

My wife Karla has always felt these Southern Utah Canyons make one feel as though they were in a cathedral, and this was certainly the case here.  If you’re prone to claustrophobia, the sheer beauty of this place is a sure cure!
