Joseph Smith Memorial Building
Formerly the Hotel Utah, this building, completed in 1911, was renovated and reopened in 1993 as a multipurpose facility. It houses a genealogical research center, restaurants, and meeting and reception rooms.
The tall columns feature a scagliola finish, which typically incorporates marble dust and plaster, and is honed to give the appearance of marble.
The art glass ceiling was periodically covered or blacked out during WWII.
The Joseph Smith Memorial Building is located just east of Temple Square in Salt Lake City.

Mr Van Hemert, I can’t tell you what joy your pictures brought to my heart.Fifty years ago my Dad’s work brought us to Ogden for several years. Even at ten I knew we lived in God’s backyard. Every weekend was a trip to a new and magical place. Unfortunatly Life moves on.I always thought I would get back to what I felt was my home. Finally through your incredible pictures I made it home. Now through your pictures I have been able to bring the magic of my childhood to life for my children.I can’t thank you enough for this priceless gift. Thanks so much! Lynn Crump

Hi Lynn,
I know what you mean about life moving on. I wish I could live near everyone I ever knew (well almost everyone). Thank you so much for your comments!
